Admission Insight

Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) evaluate communication agility, empathy, and structured decision-making under strict time limits. Here is the 4-step framework used by top scorers:

Step 1: Objective Clarification (1 Minute)

Restate the scenario neutrally without making assumptions or accusing anyone. Acknowledge the emotional and ethical complexity: “This scenario presents a difficult conflict between patient autonomy and duty of care…”

Step 2: Multi-Stakeholder Perspective Taking (1.5 Minutes)

Acknowledge every affected party (patient, family, nursing staff, supervising physician, institution). Show the interviewer that you understand the valid competing values at stake.

Step 3: Private Information Gathering (1.5 Minutes)

Explain that before taking punitive action, you will speak with the individual in a private, non-judgmental environment to understand root causes (e.g., burnout, personal distress, miscommunication).

Step 4: Principled, Patient-Centered Resolution (1.5 Minutes)

Provide a constructive resolution that prioritizes patient safety and ethical guidelines while maintaining empathy and institutional compliance.
