ExploraVision Mentorship

Admission Insight mentors student teams entering Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision, the K-12 science competition where teams imagine a technology 10 or more years in the future. We make sure the science behind today's version is right and the write-up is the team's own.

Teams of 2 to 4 students enter with a coach. The 2027 deadline is January 27, 2027.

About the ExploraVision

Who can enter

Full-time K-12 students in the U.S. and Canada, in teams of 2 to 4 with a teacher or parent coach and an optional mentor.

Categories

Grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12, set by the oldest team member.

What to submit

A title, a 150-word abstract, a project description, a bibliography and a technology launch flyer. No working prototype is required.

Prizes

24 regional winning teams; 8 national finalist teams travel to Washington, DC in June.

What we help with

Current science

The team researches how the technology works today before imagining it in ten years.

The write-up

Abstract, description and bibliography in the team's words, with AI use cited as the rules require.

The student does the work

The student owns the question, the data and the writing. We meet one on one, ask the hard questions a judge will ask, and say plainly in any disclosure what help was given.

Who mentors

Dr. Harman Brah, MD

Physician and judge at the California Science & Engineering Fair.

Wesley Hatcher, PhD

Organic chemistry, UC San Diego. NSF Graduate Research Fellow. Directed research mentorship for more than 100 UCSD undergraduates.

Results

Our students have been Regeneron STS and ISEF national semifinalists and category award winners, and have taken 1st place at JSHS and the Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair.
