Admission Insight

Admissions committees do not evaluate clinical experience purely by cumulative hours. They screen for clinical proximity, emotional endurance, and longitudinal consistency.

The Three Clinical Tiers

Tier 1: High Signal (Direct Patient Proximity)

Roles: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Medical Assistant (MA), Phlebotomist, Hospice Volunteer.

Adcom Value: You have cared for patients in vulnerable, demanding situations and understand the routine, unglamorous realities of healthcare.

Tier 2: Moderate Signal (Clinical Environment Exposure)

Roles: Hospital Volunteer, Emergency Department Scribe, Free Clinic Intake Coordinator.

Adcom Value: Strong exposure to medical workflows and physician documentation, but limited hands-on patient responsibilities.

Tier 3: Passive Observation

Roles: Physician Shadowing.

Adcom Value: Crucial to demonstrate understanding of a doctor’s daily responsibilities, but cannot stand in place of direct patient interaction.

The Hours Benchmark

Minimum Floor: 150 verified direct clinical hours before application submission.
Competitive Range: 300–500+ longitudinal hours accumulated over at least 12–18 months.
